Once a beautiful and docile place, has turned into a hellish prison for those who disappeared. Make your way through various locales inside Hargrave, from a derelict farmstead to a god-forsaken factory, do whatever it takes to find answers for all those missing people. Will you clasp on to enough hope to escape? Or stay forever ensnared inside Hargrave's rotten mouth...
THE WREAKS
Sedgewick contracts a deadly sickness in which you must manage with medication throughout the journey. If left too long without temporary treatment, symptoms will begin to slow you down and make it difficult to outrun or fight those who want you dead. Symptoms will worsen while progressing, making it more and more difficult to stay alive without medication. Do what you can to stay off the sickness during your fight through Hargrave.
RUN OR FIGHT
Sedgewick is an agent of the D.S.I. and has both knowledge and training on how to deal with the supernatural and paranormal accordingly. Use a selection of weapons to defend yourself against the horrors that lurk within. However some enemies you face will be invulnerable to your arsenal, in times like this it is in your best interest to run like hell.
THE SUPERNATURAL & PARANORMAL
There is an abundance of creatures roaming the darkness. From different types of spirits to sea dwelling cryptids, keep track of them in Sed's compendium, which will update with every new creature you lay eyes on, after all... it is important to know which ones will tear you limb from limb without a moments thought. But be ready to lay witness to heinous life-forms nobody has ever seen, in places so truly void of hope... you will forever be Despondent.
OLD-SCHOOL GRAPHICS
Despondent is heavily inspired by games from the late 2000's/early 2010's. It mixes detailed environments and characters with 2D sprites that are implemented as foliage, draw clutter, food etc. It is also paired with some retro post-processing like heavy film grain, bright colours and an overly sharp image. These elements all lovingly come together to create a nostalgic aesthetic that will bring you right back to the good ol' days!
