Mechanics
Confidence is key - Interactions have consequences. Positive interactions will grant you confidence, while negative interactions will drain your confidence. Certain actions require confidence to perform, and the state of your confidence will also bring long term consequences.

Sanity is precious - It's easy to lose your grip on reality, hold on tight.
Sanity is the flipside to confidence, and is now a resource that is constantly draining. Some things help to ground you in reality, and will raise your sanity if only by a little bit, but it won't last.
The lower your sanity is, the more you begin to cross over into another world, a world that holds many secrets to be uncovered, but also a world in which you are prey to the forces that wish to bring you harm.

Fight back - The shadow hides in disguises. Different weapons, tools and the smartest your wits have to offer might just be enough to save your life.
