It’s 1999 and Y2K is upon us. You are the owner of an independent video store that a corporation is eyeing off to purchase. Help your customers find the perfect video by listening to their stories and decide what the future is for your video store.
A satirical look at the lives, interests and subcultures at the turn of the 21st century.
Video Nightz is a feature-length visual novel-style game, taking influences from Interactive Fiction, Store Simulators, and Point & Click Adventures.
Note: This game is all about talking and recommending (not a store management/simulation).
Features
Characters: Meet a wide range of customers from various 90s subcultures.
Tastemaker: Recommend videos from the Staff Picks shelf.
Conversations: Get to know your customers and learn about their personalities.
Y2K: Taking place over 12 nights in the final months of 1999 during the lead-up to the year 2000.
Graphics: Pixel art inspired by 90s TV animation.
Soundtrack: 90s hip hop influenced beats bumpin' straight from your store’s boom box.
Runtime: Estimated 120 - 240 minutes, about as long as a long movie or a short TV miniseries.
