Butterfly: Twisted Thread is a hand-drawn 2D Metroidvania built around a unique drawing mechanic. With the help of a mystical butterfly companion, you can draw platforms, objects, and weapons directly into the world to explore, solve puzzles, escape danger, and fight enemies.
Your drawings are physical objects, not just visual effects. They can be used to create temporary paths, cross gaps, activate switches, block hazards, drop objects onto enemies, or launch drawn shapes as ranged attacks. Every drawing consumes ink, so you must manage your resources and decide when and how to use your creations.
Explore interconnected nightmare realms filled with hidden paths, traps, puzzles, and stitched enemies inspired by dolls, scissors, needles, and sewing tools. Combat combines sword attacks, dodging, and creative use of your drawings, allowing you to approach enemies in different ways.
As you progress, you will face cursed souls trapped inside the nightmare. After major boss battles, you must choose whether to spare or execute them. These choices affect the butterfly, the story, and the ending you receive.
