You awaken to the sight of darkness, the only light source a lamp tucked in the corner of a now vacant classroom. Trapped within the bowels of endless dreams and reflections, you must seek out fragmented memories of your past and piece them together, lest you lose yourself among the shadows.

Peril the Darkness.
Traversing the school—a surreal, metaphysical manifestation of comforting memories and painful recollections—is your only path to survival. Avoid danger, explore new areas, and solve puzzles in order to unlock the way forward. After solving puzzles and reliving memories, fragments of Scarlett's past will manifest in the form of Mementos, items that reflect the lived experiences of Scarlett's school days. While carrying certain Mementos, relevant areas and events within the school will reveal themselves, allowing you to trek ever further into the darkness.

Recover the Past.
Scarlett carries a limited collection of Mementos, only able to manifest up to four at a time. From aiding you in times of peril, to unlocking unique attributes of Scarlett's psyche, choosing your Mementos is key to survival. Hold dearly on to those most valuable, and allow what remains in the past to slip through your fingers. This inventory system serves as an evolution of the classic survival horror formula, offering a unique and deeply personal experience that reflects every step you take on your journey.

Old Memories. Old Nightmares.
Terrors of Scarlett's past have manifested to haunt her, creating danger at every turn. From the farthest corners of the darkness, to the twisting hallways of the school, no nightmare is left buried. Unable to fight back, you must avoid and hide from enemies to survive, while holding on to Mementos most precious in order to heal. Rest within safe rooms to restore your health, and use limited items wisely to save your progress.
