In the early 22nd century, AI-driven productivity generated a global surplus that never reached the people who needed it. Instead, it funded a new class of extragovernmental agencies, among them the Department of Conjoint Space Efforts, tasked with advancing humanity's reach into the final frontier.
The world watched as the DCSE's most ambitious probe, the Pioneer, made its way to a now-classified destination. When it finally arrived, its signal inexplicably corrupted all AI systems on Earth.
Years later, the DCSE began replacing its artificial systems with human operators as part of a jobs initiative. This is where you come in.

The Terminal Interface
Monitor deep-space feeds, read classified bulletins, and communicate with your colleagues; all from the cold glow of a DCSE operator terminal. It is an outdated interface barely human-friendly, maybe reinstated in a rush after the Pioneer incident.

Probe Orientation & Camera Control
Point your cameras at distant moons, gas giants, and binary stars. Report what you find. The work is mundane, but you are among the first humans to ever lay eyes on these worlds.

Hands-on Diagnostics
Your on-probe systems can only do so much. Conduct spectral analyses, decode telemetry signals, and interpret data too complex for the satellite hardware. And when the feed goes dark, it is on you to bring it back.

A Deeper Narrative
Something is unsettling your colleagues, as your observations don't quite match the official reports. At the end of every session, something out there forcefully terminates your connection. You have to wonder: is this what happened to the Pioneer?
