Subversive

Subversive is a story-driven top-down shooter where death connects a dystopian, dictatorial version of America set in the near future with a supernatural world governed by its own rules.

The game draws inspiration from titles such as Half-Life 2, Undertale, and Hotline Miami, but it isn't truly similar to any of them. In fact, it doesn't fit neatly into any existing genre.
Gameplay combines gunfights, puzzles, boss fights, and exploration, all of which influence the course of the story.

The game takes place across two interconnected worlds, which the player transitions between upon death. The first is a dystopian near-future version of our own world, where World War III is on the verge of becoming a nuclear conflict. The second is a world that transcends the first, where the laws of physics work differently.

Throughout the game, the player acquires conventional weapons in the first world and supernatural abilities in the second, both of which can be used in either world.

You play as Public Enemy Number One in a dictatorial version of America. Your goal is to fight for freedom, stop World War III, and liberate the country from its authoritarian regime. However, nobody can stop you from using your abilities to pursue your own agenda.
