Death was supposed to be the end.

After a catastrophic event tears Cassian and his younger sister Lyra from the living world, Cassian awakens in the Crossroads: an impossible realm connecting the afterlives of different civilizations. Lyra is somewhere beyond its gates, and something ancient is already rewriting the laws that govern the dead.
To find her and return to life, Cassian must travel through six mythological realms, confront the beings who rule them, recover the broken principles of the Crossroads, and discover why his soul belongs to no single divine order.
His journey brings him face to face with Persephone, Bastet, Freyja, Chang'e, Inanna, and Ame-no-Uzume. Each goddess rules a different realm, carries her own desires and conflicts, and challenges a different part of Cassian's identity.
What begins as a desperate search for Lyra gradually becomes something much larger.
Cassian has spent his entire life studying gods as stories. Now those gods can speak back.
Some will challenge him.
Some will desire him.
Some will reveal truths about death that humanity was never meant to know.
