rogOut is a dark turn-based ASCII roguelike that combines high-adrenaline extraction looting with horror survival.
Explore abandoned locations full of seemingly dormant creatures, scavenge valuable high-tech loot to survive, and, if you are lucky enough, find out what happened to the world after the Reshuffle and how to navigate the Dark Fold.
MAIN FEATURES
hardcore tactical gameplay
Each move has weight and consequences. These creatures are dangerous, your weapon breaks quickly when you hit them, protective clothes tear apart when they approach you. Turn on the light for a brief moment to see a bit further in the dark, and stay alert, as it may wake up creatures around you. You didn't know they were here, and you don't want them to wake up.
coop multiplayer
Unique async turn-based multiplayer system allows players to seamlessly join and leave shared expeditions at any time, stay afk, or rush towards the goal, without impacting other players experience
The game is designed to be played in three variants:
Standard – solo, occasionally encountering other players

Lone Survivor – offline solo, no interactions with other players

Co-op – invite players and form a group

smooth ASCII horror
These could be the scariest ASCII letters you've ever seen. They are grim, smoothly animated, mysterious, and dangerous. Each character and creature has ASCII animated portraits.
immersive sound
The sound is refined to the finest detail to support symbolic ASCII graphics. It's also important for survival, as subtle cues can help you survive. Moments when you hear sudden splashes of water made by another survivor running outside the building, or heavy stomping coming from the dark, are both unforgettable.
coffee-break expeditions
Gameplay is divided into two main parts: dangerous high-adrenaline expeditions and a calm crafting and preparation phase in the hideout. A single expedition usually takes around 5-15 minutes, after which you either bring some great loot and crafting materials to your base, or lose your survivor to the dark, with all the progress wiped. Also, "save & exit" can be used at any time, even in co-op. These are small details to support your life balance and help with time management.
hideout crafting & upgrades
Hideout can be upgraded with stations you find in the expeditions. Discover locations, repair & upgrade equipment, craft what is missing, and plan the next expedition. Get intel on the locations you are going to visit and pack your backpack.
ABOUT
I'm Stasoun, and rogOut is my passion project. I love traditional roguelikes, and I've played many of them, including all the classics and modern ones. I wanted to play a traditional roguelike in co-op for a long time. A few relevant games I found were not truly turn-based and involved periodic real-time ticks or some kind of action points. It's a challenging task, and I was thinking about this for a few years. I eventually came up with a solution, but it required building the roguelike around the co-op from scratch.
This is how rogOut was started. If you ever wanted to play a traditional turn-based roguelike together with someone in co-op – now you have one more option, and I hope you'll enjoy it!
