Type to Survive

Your weapons fire themselves. The dangerous enemies are your problem.

Type to Survive is a survival roguelike that keeps both hands busy. Steer with the arrow keys while your weapons chew through the horde. Type the words above elites to kill them, or crack an enemy's shield so your weapons can finish the job. Pick your target before the crowd boxes you in. Bosses demand whole phrases while their attacks keep coming.

Give the keyboard a night off

Play a solo run in Controller mode. Steer with the left stick or D-pad and press the sequences shown over enemies. Flick the right stick to change targets and click it when your Super is charged. Button prompts follow the detected controller, with Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo styles in Options. Controller runs keep separate local records. Daily Challenge and Score Attack are practice in this mode.

Build something ridiculous

Choose from six heroes, each with a starting weapon and passive. Draft upgrades as you level up, stack synergies and evolve your weapons into screen-clearing builds. There are 47 upgrades to work with, plus pre-run chips and permanent upgrades to unlock. Build a typing streak, charge your super, then finish its phrase to clear the wave.

Bring a flamethrower to a typing test. Mix homing missiles with orbiting drones, then commit to a weapon's upgrade path. Stronger bolts or faster firing: some choices lock out the alternative.

Unlock a new look

Unlock cosmetic accessories through play. Every hero can wear a samurai hat or a black cap that reads 'I am the boss'.

Type the Super

Finish its phrase before the timer runs out and clear the wave. Controller mode uses an eight-button sequence.

Take the fight somewhere worse

Meadow's moonlit island is just the start. Push into Ember's lava fields, cross Frost's reflective ice and unlock the Derelict cargo deck. Choose a 10-minute or 20-minute run, or see how long you last in Endless. Agony and Torment turn up the pressure. Bosses bring their own phrases and attack patterns. Die, and the arcade announcer gets the last laugh. Every hero has their own fatalities. The cabinet enjoys making a spectacle of your defeat.

One moves. One types.

Local co-op puts two people in charge of one hero. One steers with a gamepad; the other types on a keyboard. Good luck agreeing on which enemy needs to die first.

Put your score on the board

Daily Challenge changes the setup each day: six minutes, three scored attempts, your best score counts. Score Attack keeps the same setup and lets you retry as often as you like, with Weekly and All-Time Steam leaderboards. The Weekly leaderboard resets; the setup stays the same. Steam competition is for solo keyboard runs; controller and co-op runs are practice.

Choose your controls

Keyboard mode supports QWERTY, AZERTY and QWERTZ layouts and uses the arrow keys for movement. Controller mode replaces typing with button sequences and uses the left stick or D-pad to steer. Two Player mode needs a gamepad for steering and a keyboard for typing.

Windows: Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11.

macOS: macOS 13.7 or newer on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). Tested on Apple Silicon only; Intel Macs are not supported.

SteamOS / Steam Deck: Uses the Windows version through Steam Play (Proton). Controller mode does not require typing. Steam Deck hardware compatibility has not been verified.

Linux: Uses the Windows version through Proton. No native Linux build is included; general desktop Linux configurations have not been validated.
