Welcome to SpellSimmer, a cozy fantasy cooking game where being a good cook means understanding your customers as well as your ingredients.
Your visitors never tell you exactly which property they want in a dish. Instead, they complain, hint at their desires, share a strange thought, or give you a cryptic clue.
Your job is to figure out what the customer truly needs, identify the right property, choose suitable ingredients, and cook a dish that matches their request.
Decode your customers' requests
Don't expect a shopping list.
A customer might complain about being cold after a long journey, long for the scent of the forest, or wish they had a little more courage.
Read their words carefully and determine which property their dish should have.
Once you've solved the clue, choose the right ingredients and prepare the meal.
Get it wrong, and your customer may receive something very different from what they expected.
Learn ingredient properties and discover recipes
Every ingredient has its own properties.
Combine ingredients, experiment with different pairings, and discover new recipes. As your kitchen grows, you will gain access to more ingredients, properties, and cooking methods - while your customers' requests become increasingly varied.
Decide who deserves a seat at your table
Not every visitor is the same.
SpellSimmer features both light and dark customers, and the people you choose to serve gradually shape your kitchen's reputation.
Serve light-aligned visitors and your reputation will move toward the light.
Take care of dark customers and your establishment will begin to earn a very different name.
But reputation is more than a meter.
The path you create affects the rest of your playthrough. Light and dark reputations unlock their own possibilities, items, and development options. Even your kitchen can begin to reflect the path you have taken, with furniture, inventory, and other elements suited to its light or dark identity.
There is no button at the beginning asking you to choose good or evil.
You build your reputation yourself - one customer and one order at a time.
Choose two specializations out of four
As you progress, you will gain access to four talent branches:
Culinary Mastery
Expeditions
Kitchen Development
Visitors & Reputation
But you cannot master all four in a single playthrough.
You may choose only two.
Each specialization does more than provide simple bonuses. Every branch contains its own unique mechanic, which will not be available in that playthrough if you choose a different path.
Focus on cooking and dealing with customers, or build your playthrough around expeditions and kitchen development.
You cannot have everything at once, so your choice of specializations can significantly change how a run develops.
Build a team of helpers
You don't have to gather everything yourself.
Different helpers specialize in different resources. Send them on expeditions, replenish your supplies, and unlock new helpers as your kitchen grows.
Each has their own role and their own type of loot to bring home.
Discover unusual treasures
Throughout your journey, you will encounter artifacts, curios, and equipment.
Use their effects, equip your helpers, and find new ways to influence the development of your kitchen.
Grow your kitchen
Start small and gradually expand what your kitchen can do.
Unlock new equipment and cooking methods, increase your storage space, improve your workspace, and gain access to new possibilities as you progress.
