ONE CAT. ONE CITY. HOME BEFORE 5 PM.
The front door clicks shut. Jakes has eight hours, a city full of rooftops, sewers and fish stalls, and a best friend locked in a cage at the pet store across town. Get out, get your friend, and get back on the windowsill before anyone notices you were gone.
SNEAK, CLIMB, LEAP
Slip out the window and over the alley fence. Ride the elevator in the old building, hop roof to roof high above the street, and crawl through the storm drains past the sewer rats. Climb trees, walk the branches over the dog park, and hide in barrels and boxes when someone comes looking.
NEW TRICKS FOR A CLEVER CAT
- Swim across the park pond when the lily pads start to sink.
- Dig under fences and hedges to make your own way in, and back out.
- Meow to lure a guard dog away from where you want to go.
- Knock things over, push crates into place, flip valves and pull levers.
DON'T GET CAUGHT
Dogs sniff around the park, the fishmonger guards his stall, and two German Shepherds patrol the pet store at night. Every guard has eyes and ears. Stay out of sight, keep your paws quiet, and if you get spotted, run for it! Every time you're caught, the owners get 30 minutes closer to home.
ACT 2: THE RACE HOME
Freeing your friend is only half the job. The clock is ticking faster now, so lead your friend back through the fish market, the park, the rooftops and the alley, the other way round, and be curled up on your bed when the key turns in the lock.
