Start in Lingao. Change the Course of History.
In 1629, a group of time travelers from the modern world establishes a foothold in Lingao, on the island of Hainan, during the final decades of the Ming dynasty.
Time Travelers: Late Ming is a single-player historical strategy simulation. Lead this community as you use modern supplies and knowledge brought through a time-travel hub to organize production, build institutions, and gradually extend your influence in an unfamiliar era.
From keeping your settlement running to rebuilding industrial, military, and social systems at early modern—and eventually modern—standards, your choices will intertwine with the fortunes of powers across the land and steer history in new directions. Resources are finite, and the time-travel hub is no solution to every problem. How will you use what you have to build a complete industrial base and secure room to grow under pressure from rival powers?
Connect Two Eras. Set Your Priorities.
The time-travel hub lets you manage the movement of goods and funds between two eras. Modern supplies can accelerate development, but every exchange involves trade-offs. How will you divide your resources between urgently needed supplies, industrial equipment, and the funds required for future growth?
Use modern knowledge and imported supplies to gradually establish local production and institutions that can sustain themselves.
Build Your Settlement. Lay the Foundations of Industry.
Assess each region’s resources and potential, then plan infrastructure, factories, and public buildings. Allocate materials and workers, organize production, transport, and supplies, and ensure that each part of your settlement supports the others.
Industry depends on an entire supporting system. Every factory needs raw materials, energy, skilled workers, and transport capacity. Every army needs a society capable of funding, equipping, and supplying it.
Advance Technology. Shape Society.
Progress through the technology tree to build your scientific and industrial foundations, turning modern knowledge into technologies that can be manufactured, maintained, and widely adopted locally. Set your research priorities and put limited research and construction capacity to work on your development plans.
Explore different approaches to governance, political power, and social development through national policies and forms of government. The institutions you establish will shape your community’s future alongside industry, public finances, and foreign affairs.
Build Trade Networks. Find Opportunity Among Rival Powers.
Establish trading posts and organize maritime trade. Bring essential resources back to your settlement and find markets for your products. Watch changing prices—and the diplomatic relationships behind the trade.
Engage with neighboring powers and navigate cooperation, competition, and conflicting interests. Commerce can open doors, while diplomacy can determine how much room you have to grow.
Build Armies and Fleets. Extend Your Influence.
Build an army and navy to defend your settlement, protect your maritime interests, or expand your territory through warfare and conquest.
Support military operations with industry, public finances, and transport. Balance development at home against expansion abroad, weighing every military decision against the resources and capabilities of your society as a whole.
Set Your Own Pace in a Changing World.
Historical news and decision events unfold as time advances. As circumstances change, decide what comes first, what can wait, and how many resources you are willing to commit to your choices.
The Ming dynasty is visibly faltering, yet no one knows that its fall is little more than a decade away. North of Shanhai Pass, the Later Jin regime stands poised for war. Across the Central Plains and Guanzhong, peasant armies swell with former famine refugees, sweeping through towns and prefectures. Along the empire’s southeastern coast, Catholic missions and Western powers are steadily extending their reach.
Whom will you choose as friends, and whom will you make your enemies? Whom will you help rise—and whom will you crush?
